Measure your pet before choosing a costume
A chest, neck and back-length checklist, with a worked example showing why a garment measurement is not a guaranteed fit.
Use three measurements, not a breed label
Two pets of the same breed or weight can have different proportions. Start with a flexible measuring tape and your pet standing naturally. Keep the tape flat and do not pull it tight. Write down the numbers in centimetres and measure again if a reading is uncertain.
- Chest: measure around the widest part of the chest, just behind the front legs. Do not use the width of the back as a substitute for the circumference.
- Neck: measure around the base of the neck where the garment will sit. Check whether a particular accessory has its own adjustable range.
- Back length: measure from the base of the neck to the base of the tail. Do not include the tail itself.
Read what the size chart actually measures
The standing Santa costume chart describes garment measurements, with “bust” corresponding to chest and “collar” to neck. These are not verified body-size ranges. A body measurement equal to a garment measurement does not leave a stated fit allowance.
Use the chart for the exact item you are ordering. A letter such as M is not a standard shared by the sweater, coat, costume and collar. Some accessories offer a range; others list a single measurement. If a necessary measurement or fastening detail is missing, contact us before ordering.
Worked example: a close number is not a confirmed fit
Hypothetical example, not a customer measurement: a pet measures 38 cm around the chest, 26 cm around the neck and 28 cm along the back. The current Santa costume M row lists 40 cm, 27 cm, 30 cm respectively.
| Measurement | Example pet | Listed garment | Difference |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chest | 38 cm | 40 cm | 2 cm |
| Neck | 26 cm | 27 cm | 1 cm |
| Back length | 28 cm | 30 cm | 2 cm |
Those differences are arithmetic, not a fit recommendation. The supplier notes a 1–2 cm hand-measurement difference. A small margin, particularly at the neck, can disappear within that uncertainty. A larger size also changes the back length. Ask about the fit allowance or choose a style with clearer measurements if the numbers are close.
Check comfort as well as the numbers
Consider how the item fastens and whether the shape could interfere with ordinary walking, sight or movement. The standing Santa effect is a front-view styling feature; the appearance varies with the pet’s proportions and posture. It is not a promise that every pet will look like the styling photo.
Use dress-up items for short, supervised sessions. Let your pet move normally and remove the item if it seems uncomfortable. If your pet does not tolerate clothing, a costume may not be a suitable gift.
Before placing the order
- Save your chest, neck and back measurements with the date you took them.
- Compare all three against the selected product’s chart; do not choose using weight alone.
- Confirm the size option in the cart, and plan arrival before the photo session.
- Read the return conditions before ordering multiple sizes. Change-of-mind or wrong-size returns normally require you to pay return postage to the specified supplier warehouse.
